Bet types & in-play

Across a long racing calendar a punter often chains several selections into one slip, and the type of bet fixes how many wagers hide behind it. This section sets out the types before any market is discussed.

Accumulators and each-way bets lead. The full-cover family comes next, from the Trixie at 4 bets through the Yankee at 11 and the Heinz at 57 up to the Goliath at 247. Further entries are over/under, both teams to score, ante-post, cash out, the bet builder and Asian handicap.

Multiplying the unit stake by how many bets the slip holds gives its price. Great Britain bookmakers run in-play markets; cash out, by contrast, belongs to the operator and carries no statutory right.
